THUNDER MISSION AND PHILOSOPHY
As a Minor Hockey Association made up of parent volunteers, our Mission can be described with four key words: FUN, SKILLS, CONFIDENCE and SAFETY. The philosophy behind each of these key words will help parents understand how we guide our decisions as we shape the hockey experience in West Vancouver.
FUN
We all say it. But when you talk to any of the hockey experts, fun is the reason anyone who plays hockey is successful at the game. From an NHL'er to a minor hockey goalie, the fun of playing the game is at the heart of success and enjoyment. We remind parents that the NHL is a long way off for the majority of players and even those who make it accomplish their goals while having fun.
SKILLS
The ability to play hockey successfully and safely depends on a combination of many important skills. Our goal is to focus not only on developing and building those skills in our players, but also to enable each player to set and achieve skill goals appropriate for them.
CONFIDENCE
Sports can play an important role in a child’s self confidence. Competing with others in a safe and fair atmosphere allows children to achieve success and build self esteem. Children soar with their very first goal. And our goal is to help your child’s confidence soar as they learn and develop their game of hockey.
SAFETY
From the STOP signs on the back of every West Van sweater to our coach’s vigilance in assuring all hockey equipment is worn and cared for properly we make every effort to ensure that the game is safe and fun.
